The Modular Horse
Interesting.
Yes. I see a lot of horse parts, but they are not quite fitting together in the usual horse ways.
I had that impression too so I went with the underlying energy of horse which is movement. If you watch a horse cantering towards you, you wil see that some of the parts don’t fit either – most book photos show what we expect to see but random photos show many strange combinations of leg, neck, body etc. I have made a number of horse sculptures which deviate from the perfection of the form but perfectly capture the idea of the living, moving horse.

I reckon it can’t be easy to swing four legs into motion independently an make it look smooth and fluid. There are bound to be awkward moments.
That’s one of those ‘what happened next?’photos. Poor little guy! But take a photo of a horse walking or cantering towards you and then draw what you see. Lots of interesting angles!
