It actually does! It started as very wet snow and then after a few nights of low temperatures it formed a crusty top layer and soft under layer. It was the light that appealed to me too. After about ten days of overcast skies this was a real treat. There are also a lot of colour reflections in the snow shadows
I like the lighting in this photo.. the snow appears to have a crust on it..
